LAMB Health Care Foundation
LHCF is a Christian charitable trust which seeks to help relieve poverty, sickness and disablity in South Asia, with an emphasis on the rights of women. We are currently concentrating on providing financial support to the LAMB Project in north-west Bangladesh, from which we take our name.

Goals and Objectives

LHCF's aim is to support the model of integrated health care and development evolved by the LAMB Project in Bangladesh and to encourage and assist other organisations to replicate the model elsewhere. The LAMB model is of proven effectiveness. Its main features are:-
- an integrated system combining primary community-based health care, basic curative care and referral to hospital when necessary;
- a holistic approach to health, encompassing emotional needs, self-worth and freedom from fear as well as physical health;
- the involvement of the local communities in the management of their services;
- economic development through community-managed micro-credit schemes;
- an emphasis on the rights and status of women, cildren and people with disability;
- a focus on reducing infant and maternal mortality;
- priority for the poorest of the poor, whose health needs are generally greatest;
- the empowerment of local communities to seek justice in fulfilment of their rights to proper health care.

About Student Electives

This organisation can offer placements for short term student electives

To find out about student's electives please conctact   John Beastall
Short-term placements, typically for 3 or 4 months, are available at LAMB Hospital, north-west Bangladesh, for medical work, administration or teaching in their English-medium primary school. Such assignments provide an unusual opportunity to experience life in Bangladesh and may be of particular interest to medical students for their elective or to other students during a gap year.

News
We have secured a three-year grant (2006 to 2009) from the UK Department for International Development to develop and expand the LAMB Project in Bangladesh.
